John & Mary (Lunz) Husler purchased Kansas land in the spring of 1909 from Frank & Maggie Hammake. The family lived in a dugout and then a granary until a suitable home could be built.
In 1918, John & Mary Husler ordered a home from the Sears, Roebuck & Company Catolog.
Sears sold CONCORD model homes from 1911 - 1922. Model #114 was sold from 1911-1916. Model #2021 was sold from 1917-1922 The CONCORD home ranged in price from $815.00-$2,546.00.
More than 75,000 Sears Kit Homes were built across the United States from 1908 ~ 1940.
(The house was painted dark gray with white trim).
Mr. John Husler
John Hussler was born in Landau, Germany in 1863. The name changed when the family registered at Ellis Island.
John was born in 1863 & Mary was born in 1867. John Husler passed away in 1940.
John H. Meyer purchased the home 01-26-1946. John H. Meyer died in 1954 ~ age 65.
Paul & Christina (Gales) Meyer inherited the home through the estate.

1918 Sears Shipping Label
Shipping labels were attached to lathe throughout our house. Sears shipped supplies via the railroad from Chicago.
Sears shipped approximately 30,000 pieces of building supplies. ( 750 Pounds of Nails ) ( 27 Gallons of Paint & Varnish )
Sears shipped a 75 page Instruction Book
After reaching the local Kansas depot, horse drawn wagons delivered supplies to the Husler farm.

We (3 Sisters) Were ALL Raised In Our SEARS House. Each of us came as newborns and left upon reaching adulthood.
Sitting On Steps Of Northwest Corner Porch. (PORCH NOW ENCLOSED ~ LARGER KITCHEN ADDITION). We loved growing up on our Kansas farm!
